Beers A pub wouldn't be a pub without a great range of beers and ales, and we have worked hard to put together a selection of real ales and lagers that match the quality and style of the food that is served at The Ostrich. Many of the ales come from small local breweries and have won awards.

Our range of Real Ales changes on a weekly basis and there will always be three on tap. You will be able to choose from a selection of the following.

Sharps Doombar Doom Bar from Sharps Brewery
The aroma of Doom Bar combines an accomplished balance of spicy resinous hop, inviting sweet malt and delicate roasted notes. The mouth feel is a perfectly balanced and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness. The bitterness remains into the finish with dry fruity notes which implore the drinker to go back for more.” 4% ABV
Hooky Bitter Hooky Bitter from The Hook Norton Brewery
A subtly balanced, golden bitter, hoppy to the nose, malty on the palate - the classic session beer, eminently drinkable. 3.6% ABV
Knights of the Garter Knight of the Garter Golden Ale from The Winsdor & Eton Brewery
The second beer of the new Windsor & Eton Brewery, Knight of the Garter was launched on June 14th 2010 to  coincide with the Ceremony of the Garter at Windsor Castle. It is a straw-coloured Golden Ale (3.8% ABV) easy summer drinking with a distinctive fresh citrus hop aroma. It is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt from a traditional floor sweeping. Again we are using whole leaf hops – English Pilgrim in the copper and a blend in the hopback, including American Amarillo with their gorgeous orangey aroma

Traditional English Ale from The Hogs Back Brewery

TEA (Traditional English Ale) from The Hogs Back Brewery
The brewery’s flagship ale is pale brown, with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma supported by malt in the taste. A well crafted, bittersweet beer with a long dry finish. A classic Best Bitter. 4.2% ABV

Spitfire from Shepherd Neame

Spitfire from Sheperd Neame
Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale is the biggest ale success story of the last decade. Originally brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, its characteristically Kentish, hoppy flavor and risque advertising campaign has made it a firm favourite with beer lovers.

Winner of a gold medal and Best Strong Cask-Conditioned Beer of the World at the Brewing Industry International Awards, Spitfire Ale (4.5% abv) is now Shepherd Neame's biggest-selling cask conditioned ale. Spitfire Ale has Protected Geographical Indication, the same regional produce protection afforded to Champagne and Parma Ham.

Aspall Cyder

Draught Suffolk Cyder from Aspall
Launched in 2003 to celebrate our 275th year of cyder making, Aspall Draught Suffolk Cyder is served on tap and in bottle. Draught has a mid straw colour with a floral/appley aroma especially of Russetts. It has a lovely mouth filling mousse and a delicate flavour of fresh pressed apples. It is an off dry cyder with a complexity that enhances its long finish.

Draught is attracting a growing audience in pubs across the country and was recently described when scooping the 2006 Quality Drinks Award as ‘almost like drinking a Sauvignon Blanc’. Ideal as an aperitif. Slightly sweeter savoury dishes, such as pork and apple sauce, or sweet and sour are beautifully complimented by Draught.  ABV 5.5%

Asahi

Asahi Super Dry from Asahi
Asahi is Japanese for Rising Sun. A Symbol of Spirit, Hope, and Inspiration   Japan's number one premium beer known for its clean, crisp and refreshing taste. Born out of a desire to create a beer that would compliment food, Asahi Super Dry quickly became the most popular beer in Japan. And with a population of 127 million people, that's saying something. Now available in over 50 countries worldwide, the refreshing taste of Asahi Super Dry, with it's 5%abv, has made a major impact in Europe where it's an established No 1 among discerning beer drinkers - including the UK where it is the top selling Japanese lager.

No wonder it's been voted as a Cool Brand, by Superbrands Ltd, for 5 consecutive years.

If Real Ale isn't your thing, don't worry as you can enjoy a range of draught lagers, Staropramen, Beck Vier and Kronenburg 1664. We also serve draught Guiness.
